The Tildruin Calendar was designed by the Tildruin city council to meet severe economic problems that had arisen due to misunderstandings between merchants following different almanacs. The city council consisted of astronomers, historians, religious leaders and merchants from different races and cultures. The council was dominated with disputes, a tug of war between political and religious views. Problems arose when various races celebrated events on the same day. To make matters worse some races were bickering amongst themselves. The quarrels within the city council harvested no less than twenty assassinations on members.

The Tildruin Calendar numbers years from the founding of the city of Tildruin. The calendar marks a new era, the Age of the Giant. Within each month, every day received its own name that described a special tradition or celebration. Even the trolls received their own day of celebration, despite the fact that they never had developed their own calendar.

To celebrate the becoming of the new calendar, a replica of the legendary Arch of Time, supposedly situated in the Nan'jarial, was built and placed in the central market of Tildruin. Other cities were slow to acknowledge the new calendar, but some were slowly persuaded when they saw the economic advantages. The farther away from Tildruin, the more skeptical the cities became. Many viewed the news of a young city that challenged the established forms of life as aggressive and ridiculous.
