The dwarves living in the Dar'Kolbur region of the Barrier Mountains are the proud descendants of the mythical deep dwarves. According to their legends the dwarves still dwell in the area where their ancestors surfaced from their underground domains.

The dwarves prospered in their new environment establishing towns, roads and mines among the mountains. When their riches attracted the orcish warlords they were ill-prepared. All of their towns but one were pillaged and destroyed. Flocking to their last remaining fort, the city of Borwin, they made a stand to hold off the invaders. They joined forces with the Kvyr elves and managed to defeat the orcs, forcing them to withdraw to the Kharbesh Wilds. The threat was overcome, but the dwarven domain was in ruins and their riches were lost. The pact with the elves was broken shortly after the war when the dwarves accused the elves of keeping recaptured dwarven treasures for themselves.

Borwin became the natural capital in the new, rebuilt domain. The Farhold clan, the rulers of Borwin, claimed royal rights over the newcomers living in their realm. Drunk on his success, the dwarven king Belgar Farhold set out to slay the infamous Tilkhurg Giant of the south. The expedition failed utterly and Belgar was slain.

A thousand years later the dwarves marched south again to redeem their honor, only to find the Giant already defeated by the elves. Robbed of their original goal, to slay the Giant, they made camp in the Greenwood Enchants to ponder their options – returning home in shame not being one of them. As the construction of the city of Tildruin began, the dwarves quickly realized its potential and eagerly joined the project. Their work has been rewarded and their honor is restored in the eyes of their kin. As a result the Dar'Kolbur dwarves are represented in the Tildruin city council and their stonework can be seen throughout the city.
