Naming is an important ritual among humans, and is often believed to give identity to the child. A priest performs the ceremony, usually in a temple with relatives and friends present.

Humans derive their surnames from the name of their most prestigious parent. Among the Isenvor, Odar and Arwondel humans, sons append "son" and daughters append "ter" to the parent name to signify it as a surname. The Emerald humans use a similar system, but add a prefix to the parent name instead. The prefix "ben" means "son of", while "omn" means "daughter of."

The Arwondel nobles precede their surnames with the prefix "van" to signify their blue blood.

Human names follow few restrictions, but are often practical to pronounce. Female names often end with a vowel.
