Religion
The trolls have a strong belief in spiritual dimensions that heavily affect everyday life. The spirits are generally regarded with reverence and suspicion, and many troll tales tell of how to deal with or avoid them. It is a shaman's task to protect the clan from spirits, and they receive high stature in troll society. They use wards and fetishes to keep the spirits at bay, and their work can remedy any aspect of life - from banishing frightful nightmares to finding the lost souls of the slain.

Different places can be more or less affected by the spirits, some are deemed to be more dangerous than others. Usually the shamans travel widely through the tribal territory to tend to the sites. It is not uncommon for trolls in need of guidance to make a pilgrimage in solitude to such sites in hope of receiving visions or boons from the spirits.

Superstition
Trolls are very superstitious. Knowing that the spirits are everywhere they fully expect them to interfere with their everyday life. There are many stories about the spirits; some grievously angered, others gratefully granting a boon, while others still finding joy in tricking hapless trolls.

Unexpected events are often explained as being the work of spirits, such as a branch falling on your head or tripping on a rock. Some trolls believe that evil spirits gather among foreigners, and that the big smelly cities of the humans are full of dead spirits. The city trolls, naturally, scoff at such ideas.
