Trolls have a hard time controlling their tongues and speak in a drooling manner as if relishing upon a meal. The sound they produce has its origin in their throats. Once that sound has been beaten a few rounds with their tongues and slipped through their distorted teeth there is not much beauty left. Trolls can produce quite a few sounds that even orcs would have trouble imitating. To a human, the troll tongue sounds like a lot of stuttering rubbish.

Troll is fairly simple grammatically and consists of few words. Trolls are fairly non-descriptive and a large part of their messages is entrusted to their vocal pitch and facial expressions. While a halfling might say: "My, my, what is that smell? A grilled fish from the Tildruin bazaar would be perfect to satisfy my hunger!", a troll would say "Me hungry, eat food!"

A troll letter is composed of crooked lines and disproportioned dots. It is well known that trolls find it hard to draw straight, much less curved lines! Troll is seldom written, but when it is this is usually done by arranging rocks and twigs on the ground. A few bones, or a skull can be placed in the near vicinity of the message to denote urgency or threat.
