Trolls
often find it hard to understand the motives and
actions of other races. From their perspective other
races tend to have the wrong priorities and a backwards
way of thinking. Thus other races are commonly considered
peculiar and unpredictable. Their standing with
the spirits is unclear, and caution should therefore
be used when dealing with them.
There is much bad blood between the Oukra trolls
and the Arwondel humans. The humans were in the
days of the Barinorr Empire accused of kidnapping
and enslaving troll children. The trolls responded
by scourging the countryside of Loldar, Torindal
and Gotanvir, leaving death in their wake. The humans
are also blamed for the dividing of Oukra Woods.
This was an event that made many trolls homeless,
and forced several tribes to migrate to the Sarmoor
Swamp. These happenings have earned the humans a
reputation of being greedy and treacherous.
The trolls of Sarmoor and Gordawir have faired much
better in their relationships with the humans. Although
not entirely friendly, contact with the Emerald
Bay villages have been peaceful. The Gordawir trolls
lead withdrawn lives in mountain caves and rarely
see other races. The trolls of Sarmoor seldom receive
visitors, but are known to stray farther from home,
and therefore have a wider repertoire of experiences
with other races.
The Arwondel trolls, descendants of trolls brought
to slavery, have lost much of their cultural identity
during their slow integration into human society.
They view their nature-bound kin with respect, but
their lifestyle is said to belong to a foreign distant
past. A few trolls have returned however, and they
act as a bridge between the city and rural trolls.
This has unexpectedly stimulated trade with the
Oukra trolls particularly, and several tribes have
earned the reputation of being providers of quality
furs.
